The possibilities…

At first glance, combining the idea of working a small homestead with improving health may seem like an odd jumble. But the truth is that homesteading and health are deeply interconnected. Participating in homesteading encourages healthy living, and healthy living often motivates people to explore homesteading in the first place.

As food insecurity and a declining standard of living have become common for many, especially in rural areas, people have learned to cope with difficult economic times by taking care of themselves and their families, living as self-sufficiently as possible. Homesteading, however, is about more than simply living close to the land. It is about creating a home, a stable place for family. It means learning to do for oneself: cooking, gardening, preserving food, raising chickens, repairing and sewing clothes, fixing machinery, and acquiring basic carpentry skills, all in service of living more independently.
